A brittle, steel-gray alkaline earth metal, beryllium is strong and lightweight with excellent electrical/thermal conductivity. Its properties hold up at both high temperatures and cryogenic conditions, making it ideal for aerospace and military applications. Beryllium is also transparent to X-rays, making it an indispensable component of particle physics experiments and equipment.

beryllium foil can be made into various shapes, sizes and thicknesses for different applications. It can be used in X-ray tubes, acoustic applications and in nuclear physics experiments. Known as beryllos (beryl), it is found in nature in a variety of minerals, including bertrandite, chrysoberyl and phenakite. It was first discovered in 1797 by N. Vauquelin in Paris and was extracted by Wohler and Bussy in 1828.

American Elements produces beryllium high purity foil and sheets for numerous industrial uses. The products are available in a wide range of thicknesses and sizes with varying purities.

Typical thicknesses for beryllium foil can range from 0.025mm to 2mm and they are available as light tight (LT) or not light tight (NLT). Foils that are not light tight are typically free of visible pinholes, but some may contain them on occasion. Foils that are light tight will be free of pinholes and have a smooth surface.

Allied Specialty Metals is an ISO 9001:2000 and AS 9100:2009 certified distributor of precision beryllium alloy foil. The company offers beryllium copper 25 and beryllium nickel alloys in various thicknesses and widths. It can be cut to size, rolled, sheared, machined and finished. It serves industries such as metallurgical, aircraft, aviation, computers and electronics, automotive and energy.
