chromium 3 bromide is a dark colored compound with the chemical formula CrBr3 which is a precursor to chromium (III) fluoride and chromates. The compound is soluble in water and reacts with hydrogen to form the hexahydrate, CrBr3(H2O)3. Chromium(III) bromide has the oxidation number of 3. It is found in nature as colorless crystalline mineral halide salts and is sourced from chromite ore.
