Iron (III) Nitrate Solution is a colorless liquid that contains 10% iron, an essential nutrient for plants. It is also used as a mordant for dyeing and tanning, and it is a chemical analytical reagent. It can be used by jewelers to etch silver and silver alloys.

The solution is a high purity product often equal to or exceeding the purity standards set by the American Chemical Society (ACS). This product is specially made for use in science education laboratories and is not available to individuals or residential addresses. A certificate of analysis is not provided for this product.

The soluble form of ferric nitrate appears as a violet crystalline solid and is completely soluble in water, alcohol, and acetone, and is slightly soluble in cold concentrated nitric acid. It is nonflammable but will accelerate the burning of combustible materials. Prolonged exposure to fire or heat may produce toxic oxides of nitrogen. Iron nitrate is a hazardous substance when mixed with certain other substances such as copper and aluminium. It is regulated under Section 311(b)(2)(A) of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and further regulated by the Clean Water Act Amendments of 1977 and 1978. It is designated as a Schedule I hazardous waste by the Environmental Protection Agency. American Elements manufactures to numerous standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade); ACS, Reagent and Technical; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical; Optical Grade; and USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia). Other standards include ISO, DIN and EN.
