Zirconium-nitride =105.2, density 7.99g/cm3, and is a light yellow powder. ZrN has high chemical stability and a low decomposition temperature, making it a tough refractory material. This makes ZrN resistant to high temperatures, corrosion and wear. ZrN is an excellent high-temperature structure material, superhard tool and surface protector material. ZrN thin film is a light golden colour with low brightness. It is ideal for areas where titanium dioxide isn’t suitable for coating. ZrN that has been developed by physical vapor deposit (PVD), is light golden and similar to elemental. ZrN’s room temperature resistance is 12.0mO*cm. It has a temperature coefficient of 5.6*10-8O*cm/K. It also has superconducting transitiontemperature of 10.4K. And the relaxation lattice parameter of 0.4575nm. ZrN, single-crystal ZrN has a hardness of 22.7+-1.7 GPa. The elastic modulus is 450 GPa.
Zirconium nitride is hard (>15 GPa) 10 and has a high melting point of 2980+-50degC. It also exhibits good thermal conductivity (45-50W/mK), excellent wear resistance, and high corrosion resistance. It is gaining widespread interest and has many uses, including as a coating for thermal barriers, mold settings for material process and diffusion barriers.

Zirconium nitride preparation method
A variety of methods are used to synthesize zirconium nutride powder. These include direct nitridation Zr with nitrogen, high energy reactive ball milling, microwave plasma, and aluminum reduction.
1. Direct nitriding (direct nitriding) of metal zirconium, and nitrogen at temperatures of 1100-1200degC

Zirconium-tetrachloride is first formed an adduct in ammonia. Next, it’s heated to 750C to become zirconium pentaridide (Zr3N4). It then gets heated to 1200C to make zirconium nutride (ZrN). Ammonia can react above 1000degC in the presence sulfuric acid to make zirconium nutride.
